We are delighted to add to the museum collection a medal awarded by the Kirkgate School in 1880. The recipient, David Mackie, the son of a farm servant from Dairsie, went on to graduate from Edinburgh University and become an English teacher at Forfar Academy. He was also active in Forfar as a library committee convener and museum curator, and compiled a book relating to the town’s experiences during the First World War. He died in 1933, but his memory will live on with his school medal, now a treasured artefact for Cupar Museum.
